Sports Therapy

Build excellence in all areas of an athlete’s life —mind, body and spirit.

You can’t out-think trauma

When you are healing from a traumatic injury, performance setback or crushing disappointment in sport, talk therapy isn’t enough. That experience becomes stuck in your brain and continuing on without addressing it is like running on a broken foot.

A trauma-informed approach to sport therapy using EMDR allows us to harness the brain’s neural networks to build adaptive coping strategies and resiliency. Once the trauma memory has been desensitized, new neural pathways are created allowing the nervous system to respond differently, maximizing an athlete’s potential.

With over two decades of experience in a variety of high-performance settings, including her pivotal role as a Team Canada Coach, Kara Kalin has worked with hundreds of amateur and professional athletes to provide individualized support in the sports sector.

“Your expertise in the relationship between sports performance, emotions and injury was very much needed by my daughter, and I don't think ‘talk therapy’ would have been enough to get her moving forward again.

The EMDR had a significant and positive impact on my daughter’s soccer performance and overall mental health. Prior to working with you, her self esteem was very impacted by the concussion because she couldn't play like she did before. Now, I can see that she has reclaimed parts of herself and I believe she feels whole again!

I don't want her entire self esteem to be tied up in her performance, but she is good at it and likes to perform at a high level. I believe it was necessary that she achieve some type of mastery over the concussion incident so That she could have the emotional freedom to play the way she wanted to play. Overall, she is a much happier and confident girl.”
